Jonathan Kane, PhD
Dr. Kane brings over 30 years of design and development experience, focused on visible and infrared imaging systems and cameras with a focus on zoom systems throughout his career. As a founder of IrZoom, Kane was formerly a research and development scientist at both Lincoln Labs and the US Air Force Research Labs.
Dr. Kane's optical engineering and design expertise includes a background in Ballistic Missile early warning system and simulation related to the Star Wars program. He was a key contributor on the Multi Functioning Optical Rifle Scope developed by the office of Naval Research that became the current thermal weapons systems now deployed. He has spent significant time developing coating capabilities at Clear Align, advancing both Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) with Ion-Assist Deposition (IAD) technologies.
Dr. Kane has contributed to optical component manufacturing, optical coatings, machining and assembly and optical test at IrZoom and Computer Optics (both acquired by Clear Align). He brings a design for manufacturing understanding to the design and development process. Kane was awarded his BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT and his Phd in Electro-Optics from Boston University.
