Robert W. Irvin Recognized by Congressman Matt Cartwright for Contributions to a National Space Program

Robert W. Irvin, a leading expert in the field of high precision optical alignment has received a personal thank you from Congressman Matt Cartwright, U.S. Representative, for his contributions to our nation’s space programs. This recognition is for Irvin’s innovation and mastery of electro-optics that helped propel our county’s advancements in space-qualified electro-optics.

 

Congressman Cartwright, who proudly representing Pennsylvania’s 8th district, thanked Robert W. Irvin personally at an event attended an event with government officials and leaders from the technology and defense sectors.

 

Congressman Cartwright expressed his gratitude for Irvin’s exceptional contributions stating “I would like to personally thank you for your contribution to our nations critical space program and acknowledge your personal dedication to challenging technology and schedules”.

 

Irvin state “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to our country’s advancement in space”.

 

Robert W. Irvin played a pivotal role in enabling the next generation of space qualified electro-optics, advancing the state of the art with eight patents in the electro-optics field. His innovation has helped to advance the nation’s technical and manufacturing capabilities enabling advancement of space exploration & scientific discovery. With a career spanning over 35 years, Irvin has been instrumental in the design, development and execution of several groundbreaking programs that support national security.

 

Throughout his career, Irvin has worked on high profile, leading edge, projects such as the MONET (multiwavelength optical-networking) consortium. This technology today is the basis for high-speed internet broadband, more commonly referred to as Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). MONET delivered supported the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Advanced Research Agency (DARPA) and Defense Information Agency (DIA). It was the first all optical switching network to connect these agencies in the metropolitan DC area. Irvin was awarded the Bell Laboratories Presidents Gold Award for his significant contribution to this program.
