In Your First Year, You Will:


Design & Prototype with Purpose: Create and refine opto-mechanical components that meet system-level requirements and mission goals.

Collaborate Across Disciplines: Partner with optical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to bring designs from concept to production.

Engineer for Reliability: Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and FEA to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards.

Test, Learn, and Iterate: Support testing, analyze results, and contribute improvements that enhance product robustness.

Own Continuous Improvement: Participate in design reviews, propose creative solutions, and apply lessons learned to future designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; MS or advanced coursework a plus.
  • Experience in mechanical design, prototyping, or product development (internships, co-ops, or projects accepted).
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD tools and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with tolerance stack-ups and design for manufacturability.
  • Exposure to thermal or mechanical analysis, sensor alignment, or precision assemblies a plus.
  • U.S. Person status required; eligibility for security clearance preferred.

Preferred Extras

  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA tools.
  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, and lightweight mechanical design for SWaP-C optimization.
  • Prior exposure to defense, aerospace, or optical systems development.
