Sr. Mechanical Commodity Buyer

Clear Align designs and manufactures of cutting-edge imaging and surveillance systems used from drones to border surveillance.   We work hard and have fun in a COVID safe work environment.   Join our team managing Inventory Control, Receiving and Shipping. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understands and monitor the market conditions for the assigned commodity
  • Selects suppliers for the abilities to perform in quality, cost and on-time delivery
  • Evaluates the suppliers base on a on continuous basis to improve their performance as a whole
  • Negotiates contracts for long-term agreements with suppliers of assigned commodity
  • Develop new suppliers to replace problematic suppliers, developing a plan to improve or eliminate problematic suppliers
  • Recommends improvements in overall purchasing program which will advance the interest of Clear Align
  • Responsible to drive down year-over-year procurement cost
  • Develop innovative lean manufacturing programs with supplier partners to enhance cash flow, inventory turns, and productions supply
  • Participate in appropriate meetings to represent supply chain with knowledge needed, including design reviews, program reviews, etc.
  • Lead and participate in appropriate special projects as required
  • Facilitate/participate in regular commodity team meetings as required
  • Perform diversified duties requiring considerable judgement and decision making to analyze requirements and proposals from all sources of supply for compliance with specifications, delivery, and price
  • Prepare requests for quotation as needed and make alternate supply recommendations for sole source items as required
  • In concert with Quality Assurance, perform quarterly reviews of key suppliers to ensure compliance to annual cost reduction and quality improvement targets
  • Source new parts and coordinate first article inspection with QA
  • Team with QA, measures and analyzes supplier performance
  • Analyze inventory items on hand and recommend obsolescence and/or scrap as usage dictates
  • Other job duties as required 

Scope and Metrics
Scope:
1000+ active parts
20+ active suppliers

Metrics:
Responsible to provide monthly scorecard updates for commodity and for top suppliers. Holds quarterly management commodity reviews. The format for these reviews and scorecards are always evolving. The metrics include but are not limited to: 

  • Direct material costs – comparisons to last buy and mechanical content of specific product costs
  • Total spend comparisons
  • Capacity forecasts by commodity and supplier
  • Quality performance indicators by commodity and supplier
  • Project plan execution for the movement of parts to and from suppliers to match capacity or skill set issues

Position Requirements

The candidate should have the following proffesionsal skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Must show a history of strong interpersonal,decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Must provide evidence of strong negotiation skills and knowledge of legal issues in contract development and administration
  • Must have a high degree of ethics and uphold the standards of the company covering confidentiality, cooperation, and respect for a diversity of other team members
  • Must show an understanding of engineering drawings 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business
  • 5-10 years’ experience in procurement, strategy development and supplier selection in a manufacturing environment, with emphasis on contract negotiations, data analysis and retrieval, and supply chain activities with emphasis on mechanical commodities
  • Position requires knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques and Supplier certification/development process.
  • CPM and/or ISM certification or progress toward certification desired
  • Department of Defense procurement including ITAR requirements preferred
  • Experience using Infor Visual Manufacturing a plus
  • U.S. Person Required
