In Your First Year You Will (What Success Looks Like)

0–90 Days — Foundations in Optical Fabrication

  • Learn Clear Align’s diamond-turning processes, safety protocols, and optical manufacturing workflows.
  • Develop proficiency in reading engineering drawings, blueprints, and optical specifications.
  • Support daily machine setup, calibration, and basic optical metrology.
  • Demonstrate consistent ability to follow SOPs, work instructions, and production travelers.

By 6 Months — Independent Machining & Optical Metrology

  • Operate diamond turning equipment independently while meeting accuracy and surface quality requirements.
  • Perform metrology using Zygo interferometers, Luphos, Talysurf, and other precision measurement systems.
  • Manufacture spherical, flat, and aspheric components to meet defined tolerances and surface specifications.
  • Document production activity in ERP systems with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Identify and communicate process deviations, equipment issues, or quality concerns promptly.   

By 12 Months — High-Precision Production & Continuous Improvement

  • Produce complex optical components with high repeatability, achieving targeted yields and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to process refinement, tooling improvements, and defect reduction initiatives.
  • Support training of new technicians on machine setup, handling practices, and metrology methods.
  • Maintain a high level of equipment cleanliness, calibration discipline, and process control.
  • Operate as a trusted subject matter contributor in diamond turning, polishing, and optical metrology.

Position Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in an optics manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and optical specifications.
  • Experience using Zygo interferometers, Luphos, Talysurf, or similar metrology tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrated skill with computer-based documentation and production systems.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • U.S. Person required.

Preferred Extras

  • Working knowledge of optical MIL-specs and MIL-standards.
  • Experience in conventional optics grinding or polishing.
  • Experience with CNC or precision machining processes.
  • Familiarity with process troubleshooting and continuous improvement tools.
