Nashua, NH - Optical Process Engineer

Nashua, NH

Clear Align is a high-impact electro-optics company supporting mission-critical defense and aerospace programs. Our advanced imaging systems—including thermal cameras, laser assemblies, and stabilized positioners—are trusted by Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and others. This 12,000 sq ft site is a lean, self-sufficient operation focused on assembly, testing, and customer delivery—not fabrication—making it the perfect environment for hands-on learning, technical ownership, and professional growth.

We’re seeking an Optical Process Engineer to lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes in our Optical Fabrication department. Reporting to the Shop Floor Supervisor, you'll initiate optical fabrication process improvements. While this role has no direct reports, you'll provide technical guidance and support to technicians and equipment operators, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to do more than check boxes—you’ll wear multiple hats, contribute directly to mission-critical programs, and build a career on precision, professionalism, and problem-solving.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead improvements in optical fabrication to ensure timely delivery, high quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Define and optimize processes, methods, tools, and controls for optical fabrication, focusing on cost, quality, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure process enhancements meet quality standards.
  • Implement new fabrication techniques, including diamond turning, CNC polishing, and high-speed polishing.
  • Develop and maintain process instructions, ensuring the use of correct versions and creating new documentation as needed.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to monitor and improve fabrication equipment performance.
  • Collect and analyze quality assurance data to support first-pass yield and cost objectives.
  • Support lean manufacturing principles and maintain safety protocols within the fabrication department.
  • Organize and prioritize production tasks to meet delivery and quality targets.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and maintain accurate process records.
  • Recommend procedural changes to enhance operations.
  • Assist in training operators and technicians, ensuring adherence to best practices.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in optical fabrication or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, specifications, and verbal instructions.
  • Experience with metrology and inspection processes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with optical coatings is a plus.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful process improvements in production environments that have improved production output
  • Continuous improvement mindset related to quality, on-time delivery, and Lean principles
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet customer deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to support department manager in cultivating a collaborative and growth‑focused environment—encouraging continuous learning, shared knowledge, and strong teamwork.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
