Essential Duties & Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

You’ll serve as a Quality Engineer supporting the inspection, test, and delivery of precision optical and mechanical assemblies for high-consequence missions. You’ll wear many hats: ensuring first-time-right quality, interfacing with customers, managing quality audits, and helping bring AI and analytics into our QA process.

  • Inspect precision optical and mechanical components and assemblies, validating supplier data and verifying conformance to specs.
  • Lead and document First Article Inspections (AS9102) and system-level testing on IR sensors, lasers, and stabilized EO assemblies.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions across internal and supplier-related issues.
  • Support the preparation of critical QA documentation (CoCs, test reports, inspection data) and ensure shipping accuracy.
  • Partner with engineering and production to reduce defects, optimize yields, and maintain a culture of quality excellence.
  • Analyze defect trends, process performance, and test data using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Python.
  • Participate or lead internal and supplier audits, support AS9100D and MIL-STD-810 compliance, and ensure audit readiness.
  • Explore and implement AI-based quality tools, including automated inspection and reporting systems.

Position Requirements

What You Bring:

  • Degree in Engineering or Physics or Relevant Work Experience
  • Solid foundation in optical inspection techniques a plus (scratch/dig, interferometry, MTF testing)
  • Familiarity with metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, drop gauges)
  • AS9100 experience and understanding of aerospace or defense quality standards
  • Strong written/verbal communication and data-driven mindset
  • Comfortable working in a high-mix, low-volume environment with demanding priorities
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and file-based documentation systems
  • Interest in emerging QA tools—AI, scripting (Python), or data visualization (Power BI) would be a plus
  • Bonus: ASQ CQE/CQT certification, Visual Manufacturing ERP experience
