Clear Align Awarded Follow-On Contract for Advanced Airborne EO/IR Gimbal Payload Development

Eagleville, PA — Clear Align is pleased to announce it has been awarded a significant follow-on contract for the development of a state-of-the-art airborne EOIR camera gimbal payload. This next phase expands the project’s scope to include the highly complex off-axis optical train, along with the integration of high-definition sensors, precision video electronics, integrating into a mechanical stabilized gimbal platform for a dynamic flight environment.

The new EOIR camera gimbal combines multi-axis stabilization to provide unmatched imaging performance and target tracking across in flight missions.

Design Through Production of Complex folded EO/IR Systems

Building on the success of the initial effort, this expanded award demonstrates the customer’s confidence in Clear Align’s engineering excellence, manufacturing precision, and domain expertise in optomechanical design and infrared sensing. The enhanced EOIR gimbal payload will deliver superior high-definition imaging and stabilized video for military aviation platforms, supporting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).

Example Camera Gimbal Installation

Each camera gimbal payload incorporates inertial measurement units (IMUs) for precision attitude sensing and multi-axis movement control. Together, these systems enable operators to shoot smooth video while maintaining frame stability through rapid aircraft maneuvers.

Engineering Precision for Camera Gimbal EOIR

Clear Align’s advanced EOIR camera gimbal is engineered for lightweight design, compact form, and rugged performance. Its stabilizer system uses high-torque, precision gimbal’s motors to ensure axis stabilization and fluid motion even under extreme vibration. The design ensures stable footage and continuous tracking shots of moving subjects across all axes.

Key to this functionality is the lightweight design of the optics, folded to conform to the challenging space envelope without sacrificing imaging performance. Clear Align has leveraged its extensive engineering and design expertise to design a novel optical design operating with the latest generation of small pixel pitch detector. To optimize the payload performance, Clear Align will also integrate the sensor and video electronics to maximize the gimbal payload imaging performance.

The system’s precision mount architecture ensures optical alignment and balance, while its mechanical stabilization through roll, pitch and yaw via powered control features deliver the right gimbal performance for demanding aviation ISR missions.
