We’re hiring a Manufacturing Quality Engineer-Entry Level with a sharp eye for detail, a strong command of data analysis and documentation tools, and a willingness to grow into a technical leader. You’ll support quality inspections, testing of infrared and optical assemblies, and application engineering while also helping implement AI-based productivity tools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform inspection of precision optical and mechanical components while validating supplier data.
- Perform first article inspections (FAIs) and in-process inspection/testing of precision optical and mechanical assemblies.
- Prepare AS9102 First Article Inspection reports for customers
- Support system-level testing and alignment of electro-optical assemblies, including IR sensors and lasers.
- Participate in Material Review Boards to disposition non-conforming material.
- Maintain equipment certification and preventative maintenance records in the company Quality Management Software database.
- Create QA shipping documentation (such as Certificates of Conformance, optical performance data, etc.)
- Assist with final inspection and packing of components and assemblies.
- Analyze and document inspection results using Excel, Word, and digital quality systems.
- Perform basic data analytics on yields, defect trends, and test results to identify quality risks and improvement opportunities.
- Support customer-specific application engineering tasks such as configuration checks, optical verification, returns, and documentation.
- Communicate with customers to resolve quality issues and support customer audits
- Work as a partner with the engineering and production teams to improve quality
- Participate as a member of the Material Review Board
- Perform internal audits, document nonconformances, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation supporting AS9100 compliance
- Communicate and meet with suppliers to address issues, manage quality performance, drive corrective actions, and ensure consistent excellence
- Reviewing supplier documentation, including AS9102 first article inspections
- Maintain documentation required for AS9100D, MIL-STD-810, and customer compliance.
- Occasionally assist with lab/facility responsibilities to keep the operation self-sufficient and audit-ready.
- Use and help implement AI tools for automated inspection reports, visual inspection, and data analysis.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or other related field
- 2+ years of related Quality Experience
- Experience working within a high mix, low volume manufacturing operation.
- Highly organized and efficient, with exceptional attention to detail and consistency in cleanliness, documentation, and testing
- Strong computer skills—Microsoft Excel, Word, and file management are essential.
- Comfortable working with data sets, drawing insights from results, and presenting findings clearly.
- Self-starter with a proactive, hands-on mindset, dedicated to continual improvement and adept at managing multiple responsibilities within small teams
- Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity
- Ability to work and interact within a team structure as well as independently
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities to meet deadlines
- AS9100 Quality Management System Training
- Competency with metrology equipment including calipers, micrometers and drop gauges
- Experience with interferometers, MTF testing, scratch/dig optical inspection
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, and work instructions to determine requirements
- Experience with Visual Manufacturing ERP System is a plus
- U.S. Citizenship (required due to defense contracts).
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer Preferred
- Familiarity with optical systems, thermal imaging, or precision mechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of AS9100D, MIL-STD-810, or aerospace/defense quality standards.
- Willingness to pursue ASQ Certification (Certified Quality Engineer [CQE] or Technician [CQT]).
- Basic experience with data visualization, scripting, or analytics tools (Python, Power BI, etc.)
- Interest in applying or learning AI tools (e.g. visual analytics, automated reporting).
